Role Purpose

Reporting to the Finance Manager, and working under their clear direction, the Assistant Accountant will be responsible for the trust accounting for Capricorn Insurance Services (CIS) a licensed insurance broker operating across Australia and Capricorn Risk Services NZ a licensed insurance broker operating in New Zealand. The role is also responsible for supporting with AFS license compliance, management reporting, systems accounting and financial control for CIS. Additionally, the role assists with various accounting support functions for Capricorn Mutual Limited (CML) and its subsidiaries.

Position Description

• Trust Accounting, daily receipting, bank reconciliation and processing underwriter payments.

• Monthly financial obligations checklists, month end journals, P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations.

• Assist with audit queries.

• Manage the CIS finance admin mailbox.

• Assist with accounting support functions for Capricorn Mutual Limited (CML) and its subsidiaries including but not limited to bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, month end accounting processes and other tasks as reasonably requested.

Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

• Proficient understanding of accounting principles.

• Attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently with effective time management skills.

• Strong communication skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Advanced proficiency in using the MS Office software suite.

• Continuous improvement mindset.

Experience

• Experience in an assistant accountant role.

• Experience with accounting and banking software.

• Experience with iBais, Insight or a similar insurance broking system (desirable).

• Experience in the insurance industry (desirable).

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or a business-related discipline.

• Working towards Membership of CA or CPA Australia.
